Bribie Toastmasters competed at the Area 3 Toastmasters Conference held in Kilcoy.

September 29, 2018

On the 16th of September, Bribie Toastmasters competed at the Area 3 Toastmasters Conference held in Kilcoy.

As always the competition in the speech contests were of a very high standard with competitors from Bribie Toastmasters, Kilcoy Toastmasters, Caboolture Toastmasters and Narangba Valley Toastmasters all competing for the coveted trophies.

Rosine Evans placed second in the nail biting Table Topics competition, where competitors do not know what they are going to be expected to speak about for 3 minutes, until they are standing in front of the judges and are given the topic. The topic for all competitors was “By Shear Determination”, could you stand up and speak for 3 minutes on that subject without any “umms” or “arrrs” ? Well if you want to be able to speak about anything at any time that’s certainly what Toastmasters teaches you!

A huge CONGRATULATIONS goes to Joannes Evers the winner of the Humorous Speech Contest. Taking part in his very first Area competition Joannes kept the audience laughing with his extremely entertaining and amusing speech about the arrival of his first baby. Joannes will now go on to represent Area 3 and Bribie Toastmasters in the Moreton Division Speech Contest later this year.

Bribie Toastmaster Anne Iverson participated in her first International Competition with her heartfelt speech on making a difference to the lives of others one persona at a time. Although not placing this year Anne certainly showed how Toastmasters can give you confidence to present an amazing speech in the tough conditions of a contest.

If you are interested in becoming confident in public speaking, whether to compete or just to be able to speak confidently in any situation then come along to a Bribie Toastmasters meeting. Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month in the ANZAC room of the Bribie Island RSL, from 7pm for a 7.15pm start until 9.15pm. For more information please phone Cathy on 0408803037
