Why reflexology?

In health, we need to be proactive, not reactive. Reflexology is the perfect non-intrusive health therapy.  You can address an existing condition or simply promote and maintain good health. It is an ancient method dating back to Egypt as demonstrated in paintings on the wall of the Tomb of Ankhmahor about 4000 BC. 

 

Reflexology is based on the principle that the feet and hands are a map of all organs, glands and parts of the body. It has been established that each foot contains around 7200 nerve endings relating to all organ and systems in the body.  By using thumb and fingers in a certain way and with different pressure,  reflex points in feet and hands are stimulated. This sends signals to the relating parts of the body and encourages them to regain and maintain harmony and balance in a safe and natural way. 

 

Reflexology is not used to diagnose or cure diseases. It is mainly used to complement other treatments and has proven to be extremely helpful when addressing conditions like anxiety, diabetes, cardiovascular issues, headaches, stress, kidney functions, PMS, sore feet and digestive problems. It encourages overall wellbeing and boosts the immune system. 

 

 As we age, nerve endings become less sensitive, particularly in the feet. By using Reflexology you stimulate thousands of nerve endings increasing their reactivity. By stimulation, it also improves blood circulation throughout the body.  

 

Normal reactions to a reflexology treatment may include: 

 

Better sleep, more energy, relief from pain, better joints mobility, tiredness due to relaxation, more frequent bowel movements and release of emotions may induce crying. 

 

Should you be reluctant having your feet touched or if you are ticklish you need to speak with your reflexologist who then will make adjustments to pressure and techniques so that your reflexology session is a pleasant experience.   

 

Another way to try out reflexology is by finishing a massage with a short session of reflexology. This will give your body twice a work-out, twice the benefit.
