Calling all Fishermen!!!!!! New recreational fishing grants up for grabs

The Queensland Government is making $100,000 in grants available for fishing and community groups to run fishing clinics, conduct research, promote recreational fishing or improve fish habitats.

Minister for Agricultural Industry Development and Fisheries Mark Furner said Queenslanders were keen anglers and recreational fishing was an integral part of our lifestyle.

“Fishing is also very important for tourism and jobs, attracting fishers from around Australia and the world,” Mr Furner said.

“The grants program aims to support activities and projects which enhance recreational fishing across the state.

“I encourage recreational fishing and community groups to apply for a share of this funding.

“We are particularly interested in projects that support the Queensland Government’s Sustainable Fisheries Strategytarget of increasing the level of satisfaction among recreational fishers.

“With the support of groups like these we are building a legacy of a sustainable fishery for our children and grandchildren.”

Mr Furner said projects should include co-funding or an ‘in-kind’ contribution by the applicant or other project partners.

“Fisheries Queensland will assess the projects based on their benefit to recreational fishing, value for money and alignment with Queensland’s strategic recreational fishing priorities,” he said.

Applications for the Queensland Recreational Fishing Grants Program are open to community-based not-for-profit organisations, fishing clubs and incorporated associations, schools and local councils. Applications close on July

From 2020, the recreational fishing grants will increase to $200,000 per year following additional funding announced in this year’s Budget.
