Queensland says ‘thank you’ to P&C volunteers – Nominations are now open for 2019.

Queensland says ‘thank you’ to P&C volunteers – Nominations are now open for 2019.

Education Minister Grace Grace has launched the fifth P&C of the Year Awards on P&C Day today, acknowledging the hard work of Queensland’s 24,000 P&C volunteers.

Ms Grace visited Hilder Road State School this morning to celebrate the state’s P&C members while also opening nominations for the 2019 awards.

“I’d like to pay tribute to all the wonderful P&C members across our Queensland schools who give up their time each and every day,” Ms Grace said.

“Our P&Cs volunteer approximately 18,900 hours each month to support our schools which is an incredible effort.

“P&C Day is all about acknowledging the invaluable work of the mums, dads, carers, grandparents and community members who do so much to support our state schools.

“P&Cs are the heart and soul of our schools and without them, our schools wouldn’t be as great as they are.”

P&Cs Qld President Gayle Walters said P&C Day was a chance to recognise the fundraising efforts and general support that volunteers provide.

“P&C members volunteer at events, raise money and work in P&C business operations such as tuckshops, uniform shops and outside school hours care to build the school community,” Ms Walters said.

“Working with principals, teachers and the broader school community to support student learning is what consumes a large proportion of a P&C’s time.”

Ms Grace said Hilder Road State School’s P&C won the P&C of the Year Award in the Metropolitan North category in 2018.

“The Hilder Road State School P&C runs the tuckshop and uniform shop, supports volunteers who maintain the school vegetable garden and helps maintain a local creek and environmental area next to the school,” Ms Grace said.

“The P&C also won the 2018 Water Warrior Award and the Minister’s Grand Prize at the Healthy Land and Water Awards for its involvement in the Fish Creek 4061 program.

“I’d encourage all Queensland P&Cs to put their hat in the ring for this year’s awards.”

The winner of the P&C of the Year Awards will be announced at the P&Cs Qld annual state conference in Brisbane in September.

Entries close on June 21.
