On Wednesday, 31st October, at Poolwerx in Bongaree, the owner’s Anthony and Michelle Spicer, together with staff member Rachael McCubben, handed a donation cheque over to Vice-Commodore Ces Luscombe and Senior Radio Operator Peter McNamara of the Bribie Island VMR.

The cheque for $500 was gratefully received and it will go towards the purchase of a new infra-red camera for Bribie One. Their current system has developed some issues recently and they have decided to replace it with a later model. Some of the equipment issues they have been because the vessels has to go out in very heavy weather and the forces on the vessel can be substantial in big seas. It is precisely these conditions when they are most needed, so this means that sometimes equipment suffers on the vessels. It is a very harsh operating environment for their equipment and constant maintenance/replacement are needed. These FLIR units cost thousands of dollars so the contribution of Poolwerx towards this replacement is welcome and greatly appreciated.

Poolwerx has dedicated space within their premises for the VMR to hold raffles and any other fundraising event they choose every couple of weeks. They are both in the business of water safety after all.

The Bribie Island VMR are always in fundraising mode. Although they receive a government grant every year (which is spread between 26 VMR’s statewide), they still need extra funds. Also, they are always looking for extra volunteers to assist in many categories, either onshore or out on the water. Residents who are interested, male or female, can contact Bribie Island VMR on 34087596 or at www.vmrbribe.com for further information.

Martin Jonkers donate Toyota Hi-Lux ute

Vice-Commodore Luscombe would also like to thank Martin Jonkers Motors for providing a brand new Toyota Hi-Lux 4x4 ute to assist them in their duties.

Poolwerx is now open seven days a week for the residents of Bribie Island. You can purchase anything relating to the operation and maintenance of your backyard pool at a competitive price and always with a friendly smile.
