BEACHMERE COMMUNITY DISASTER MANAGEMENT TEAM

Terry Poole has done a fantastic job in his role as Beachmere’s Community Disaster Management Co-ordinator, liaising with Moreton Bay Regional Council and developing relationships with other emergency services in the Moreton Bay region.

Beachmere has a population in excess of 4500 residents and both roads into our community can, and have been, cut off in previous flood events and bush fires.

The last big storm to hit Beachmere last year brought down trees and live powerlines in the Biggs Avenue dog park area. Energex were unable to attend for over 16 hours due to flooded roads and road closures. So, it is important to have a local team to take responsibility to manage issues and liaise with MBRC

Terry, and his team, have been invited to participate in the upcoming Emergency Services Expo. The event will be held on Sunday 14 October at the Volunteer Marine Rescue site, off Sylvan Beach Esplanade, Bellara, from 10am till 2 pm.

It will be a great family event showcasing the latest emergency equipment, with policemen, fire fighters, ambulance, SES and Marine Rescue staff to name a few. There will also be a free jumping castle and Little Squirt Fire Engine for the kids.

Put it in your calendar and learn how to get your home ready for bushfire and storm season.
