New Cab boxing building announce a hit

Division 3 Councillor Adam Hain has announced council will invest more than $320,000 to construct a new boxing hub in the heart of Centenary Lakes, Caboolture.

Moreton Bay Regional Council today awarded the tender for a new Caboolture Boxing Club building at its coordination committee meeting.

“Don and Annie [Tindall] and the club have been training some of the Queensland’s best boxers for more than three decades, and their positive impact in and out of the ring has seen them become one of the most sought after gyms to train at,” Cr Hain said.

“With their success and the recent success of local boxers like Caboolture’s Rebecca Hawker they’ve now outgrown their current home underneath the rugby league training facility and it means they need a new facility.

Construction on the 165m2 building is expected to commence August 2018 and take 14 weeks to complete, weather permitting. Modifications to the existing car parking will also be constructed as part of the build.

“With their very own boxing hub, Don will be able to give more local kids the opportunity to participate in sport, keep fit and gain valuable boxing skills.”

Caboolture Boxing Club’s Don Tindall said the announcement recognised the hard work of the club, council and the local community to create one of Queensland’s most celebrated boxing organisations.

“We have a bunch of stand-up trainers, coaches, boxers and families in our gym, and this announcement is great news for them,” Mr Tindall said.

“Having a dedicated space to exercise, train and compete will do wonders for the boxers and our club.

“We’ve produced many stand-up athletes in our three decades like ‘Nightmare’ Nik Taumafai, and now Rebecca Hawker and Antonio Futol, and I can’t wait to see where this new chapter takes us.”

The tender follows a number of projects recently announced for Caboolture’s largest sports and recreation precinct, including a new lake water pump system and landscaping project with local job seekers.

“Centenary Lakes continues to be one of the region’s most popular places for families and large sporting events, and it’s important that we continue to invest in this precinct and ensure it remains vibrant and bustling,” Cr Hain said.
